The artist, all about me.
Susanna is an artist inspired by the human need for connection, using art to bring emotions and stories back to life. Working with deep texture, bold colour and expressive mark-making, she creates vibrant paintings inspired by landscapes and her passion for horses. Her work invites viewers to pause, feel and reconnect, bringing stories, emotions and memories back to life through art, to heal and love.
The artwork grows from loss, disconnection and nature’s healing power. As a child, lying on the floor in a moment of emptiness, she saw a beautiful white horse standing beside her in a field of daisies. This connection between horse, land, texture and colour shapes her work, carrying a message: “You are not alone. I can see you.”
Susanna Cheshire is an artist based in Warwickshire. For 24 years she worked as an interior designer on theme park and exhibition projects, with clients including Merlin Entertainments, Landor Associates and Disney. Her career combined concept drawings with computer planning and technical skill, from mascot design for the Olympics to worldwide development projects. She loved the wide and mixed world this work opened up.
Living and working in Asia, and travelling the world, opened her eyes even more and continues to inspire her. Back in the UK, she returned to the art world she had left behind before her travels. Her paintings are abstract and expressive, built on instinct, colour and mark-making, with texture and a love of horses and landscapes.
The heart of her work comes from childhood. When Susanna needed love, she ran away to a field of wild daisies and lay looking up at the sky, searching for a message or simply a place to rest her mind. A white horse pushed his nose into her face. He was not afraid, and neither was she. He was a soul sending love and understanding. That moment stood still, frozen in time. When she needed love, the earth and its creatures gave it to her, and one does not live without the other.
For a long time she held this feeling to herself. Now she has given herself permission to share it. She paints horses and landscape to show the power they hold when they are together in nature, and to invite viewers to join her on this adventure: to open their souls and meet their inner child.
Alongside her studio practice, Susanna runs workshops that help people get creatively unstuck, open up their lives and find their inner child to create. She works from her studio at Plum Tree Cottage, taking commissions and making original work.
